A Los Angeles police officer fatally wounded a man with a shotgun in Encino today, police said.
A man came out of a house in the 5800 block of Jamieson Avenue with a shotgun as police were arriving in response to a report of an assault with deadly weapon just after 11 a.m., Los Angeles police Sgt. Ruby Malachi said.
Witnesses told police they heard two different weapons being fired, and the suspect went down on the lawn, she said. No officers were hurt.
It was unclear if the man fired the shotgun before police arrived. The name of the fatally wounded man is being withheld until his next of kin can be notified.
The body will be turned over to the coroner's office for an autopsy, and an officer-involved shooting team will handle the investigation.
